Chaplain Vera Alice was Called to the work of a Chaplain during her seminary training at Claremont School of Theology. The Call to chaplaincy was immediate. Rev. Vera Alice knew she felt most at home ministering to patients, families, staff and the community-at-large in times of trauma and crisis. During her studies at the Board of Examiners (B.O.E.) of the A.M.E. Church, the Dean, Rev. Kelvin Callaway, D.Min., Pastor Darryl E. Walker, and her teachers, helped her in the discernment process. Bishop T. Larry Kirkland and the Southern California Conference B.O.E. saw the vision for ordination not solely for pulpit ministry. They opened their arms for Ordination and Ecclesiastical Endorsement for chaplaincy.
Rev. Vera Alice is a trauma, debriefing trauma, Critical Care, Neo-natal Intensive Care, Fetal Demise, hospice, palliative care, geriatrics and end-of-life care, chaplain. Rev. Chaplain Vera Alice hears God Speak in times of tribulation. She sees herself as representing the Message of Jesus Christ that there is Hope in the midst of pain. Rev. Vera Alice ministers with the Redemptive Love of Jesus Christ.
In 2015 she successfully defended her thesis at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. Her focus is Pastoral Care and Counseling. Her thesis work is, Tied to Hope: Dealing with racism in healthcare. She believes through experience that transformative change can occur in individuals and communities through a Touch of the Masters Hand. In 1993, the doctors said, she would not live to see 1996. The doctors gave her a death sentence. As you can witness, she lives! She now has a life mission to spread the Word that Jesus can and does heal minds, souls and bodies.
